“OVERTHINK” by uncle
THE KNIFE AND BALLOON INSTALLATION WAS INSPIRED FROM THE EARLY SKETCHES OF ARTIST, MASSOUD SADR.
IT IS A COMMENTARY ON CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS IN POST MODERN TIMES. CITIZENS LIVING UNDER A SELF IMPOSED FEAR, ANXIOUSLY WAITING FOR SOMETHING TO GO WRONG. ACCORDING TO GOOGLE’S DATA, THE WORD “OVERTHINK” EXPONENTIALLY INCREASED IN VERBAL USE STARTING 2000, ALSO KNOWN AS, THE “AGE OF SPEED”. A THEME THAT IS REPEATEDLY NOTICED IN ARTIST’S WORK.
A KNIFE HANGING DOWN SLIGHTLY ABOVE A BALLOON CALMLY RESTING IN THE AIR, THIS INSTALLATION CREATES A SENSE OF “STRESS” AND “ANTICIPATION” RESPONSE IN AUDIENCE.
THE EXHIBITION WAS HOSTED IN COLLABORATION WITH MONO, A TORONTO BASED ART STUDIO. ARTISTS SUCH AS NASTYA HOLOVNIA, REZA BOUSHEHRI, AND ANASTASIA BUKINA PRESENTED WORKS RANGING FROM FINE ART PAINTINGS, ILLUSTRATIONS AND OTHER SOCIAL COMMENTARY PIECES.
SELF RATING MIRROR CREATED BY REZA BOUSHEHRI. A SOCIAL COMMENTARY ON MODERN DATING APPS LIKE TINDER, THAT OBSESS THE USER WITH COMMODIFYING HUMANS DOWN TO VERY OBJECTIVE METRICS. THIS MIRROR FORCES AUDIENCE TO SELF-COMMODIFY AND JUDGE.
